Some Things Ought to be Left as They Lie

EID took in the graying, dirty walls as it wandered the corridors of the abandoned school. It was taking a break from its post at the Outcast Academy, weary of the students' antics, and had chosen to take a breather of sorts by checking out a few of the local haunts.

The building it was currently in had once been one of the best boarding schools in the country, but had been forced to close after a series of grisly murders. Rumor had it that the final victims had all been friends of the boy known as the Hedone Demon, who, unable to discern friend from foe, had slaughtered them along with a number of students linked to The Underground. The police had found him hours later, bathed in blood, with his own knife lodged in one eye socket.

The dry, crusted blood smeared along the wall attested to the tragedy, and every now and then, EID came across a large blotch on the peeling linoleum where each student had been brutally cut down. Though, it thought, it still had yet to stumble upon any 'ghosts.' Despite this, there was a cold, heavy atmosphere, and at times, it felt as if it were being watched by something lurking in the darkness. A ludicrous notion, considering his powers as a shade would have alerted him to anything attempting to hide within the shadows he commanded.

Still, the odd feeling left it unnerved. There was more to this place than what its senses foretold. It had been drawn there, its body flitting from room to room of its own accord, as if following a familiar path marked out by wisps of subconscious thought. It was as if EID knew this place, somehow. Beyond even its usual powers of shadow navigation.

EID blinked, returning its attention to the present. It found itself in a large, dusty room, full of the same old, matching furniture that each of the dormitories had contained. Personal items and bedding were strewn across the floor, left untouched since the Hedone Massacre. A red couch sat in one corner, faded with time. Giving in to another subconscious impulse, EID approached the small love seat, stopping before it. Something green poked out from under the foot of the couch.

Curious, it loosed a bit of psychic energy, retrieving the object with a tendril of shadow. It was a stuffed dinosaur, covered in dust and flecks of blood, sagging and stained in places from years of lying on the tile floor. EID stared at it, fumbling with wisps of memories that shouldn't be there. Perhaps it was channeling one of the spirits that supposedly roamed the halls?

All at once, the room grew darker, and a low, menacing growl filled the unnatural silence that had settled over the building. Turning its gaze to the door, EID came face to face with a being of shadow, its glowing crimson eyes narrowed. It wasn't a shade, the enraged, fiery aura twisted around it was unlike any other creature EID had encountered. Perhaps the humans had been right to name it 'Demon.'

And yet, it, too was familiar, somehow. A name appeared on the fringes of its mind as the creature snarled, eyes trained on the stuffed toy still suspended in midair.

-...I-Izm...?-

Blinded by rage, the Smote attacked.

Oh yeah, I went there. After all, EID doesn't know anything about its origins, so why the hell not? Especially considering it got roped into looking after students/an authority position it didn't really want in the first place.
